It's been a long time since I've sat at the loom, but last week I wove off a warp that had been languishing on the loom for far too long--almost embarrassing to say how long. Did anyone guess two years? The cottolin warp produced 90" of dark brown merino fabric, destined to be a lined and pocketed tote bag at this point, a small table runner, plus a cotton hand towel for the bathroom. The weaving of it produced something greater though, as I decided to acquire a larger loom for more weaving width; a floor loom capable of weaving rugs.
The table mat is pictured on a colorful Swedish rag rug that I found on eBay.
I shopped the weaving classifieds until I located the loom I lusted after wanted, a Glimakra Ideal with a 40" weaving width. Before I sell the Victoria though, I decided to warp it again for some kitchen towels and some warp to leave on for the new owner. I was surprised at how quickly this went, beginning on Monday and weaving today, with yesterday not counting because I was subbing at the elementary school!
The new loom, which I'll pick up in Oregon next month, looks like this:
